7 Major Reform Movements of the 1800's
1. 2nd Great Awakening - Religious Movement in the 1800's which kickstarted the major reform movements in the United States. Focused on creating UTOPIAN (perfect) societies and getting rid of sin (bad stuff).
2. Temperance - Reform movement focused on stopping the selling and drinking of alcohol.
3. Horace Mann - Father of public education. Said Education was the "Great Equalizer" and provided opportunities to all social classes regardless of economic status.
4. Care of the Disabled / Prison Reform - Started by Dorothea Dix, sought to expand rights for the mentally ill, disabled, and those in prison by establishing better conditions and programs for education.
